Agreement to Terms
By accessing our website, registering for a tournament, or using any of our services, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions ("Terms"). If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you may not access or use our services.
Black Maple Athletics ("we," "us," "our," or "BMA") reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. Continued use of our services after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.
Registration & Eligibility
By registering a team, you confirm that:
- You are at least 18 years of age and have the legal authority to enter into binding agreements
- You are authorized to register the team and bind all team members to these Terms
- All information provided during registration is accurate and complete
- You will notify us immediately of any changes to your registration information
- You understand that registration is not complete until payment has been received and confirmed
Payment Terms
Credit Card Payments
- Credit card registrations require a non-refundable deposit at the time of registration
- All deposits are non-refundable regardless of cancellation timing
- By providing your payment information, you authorize Black Maple Athletics to automatically charge your credit card for the remaining balance 30 days prior to your tournament start date
- You will receive a reminder email 7 days before your balance is auto-charged (37 days before tournament)
- If the automatic balance charge is unsuccessful or declined, you will receive email notification and have 48 hours to resolve the payment issue
- Failure to resolve a declined balance payment within 48 hours will result in forfeiture of your deposit and tournament spot
- We are not responsible for any fees charged by your financial institution for declined transactions
E-Transfer Payments
- E-Transfer registrations reserve your spot for 48 hours pending receipt of deposit
- All deposits are non-refundable regardless of cancellation timing
- Your deposit must be received within 48 hours of registration or your spot will be automatically released
- If your spot is released due to non-payment, you will need to re-register (subject to availability)
- Balance payments for e-transfer registrations are due 30 days before the tournament date
- You will receive reminder emails at 37 days and 30 days before your tournament
- Failure to submit balance payment by the due date may result in forfeiture of deposit and tournament spot
General Payment Terms
- All prices are in Canadian Dollars (CAD) unless otherwise stated
- Prices are subject to change without notice; however, confirmed registrations will be honored at the original price
- Payment processing fees are non-refundable
- We use Stripe for secure payment processing; your payment information is never stored on our servers
Cancellation & Refund Policy
Team-Initiated Cancellations
- All deposits are non-refundable regardless of when the cancellation is requested
- If you have paid your balance early (before the automatic T-30 charge), you may request a refund of the balance portion only if your request is submitted more than 30 days before your tournament start date
- Cancellations made less than 30 days before the tournament: No refunds will be issued for any portion of the registration fee
- All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to info@blackmapleathletics.ca
Event Cancellation by BMA
- If Black Maple Athletics cancels an event, registered teams will receive a full refund
- Refunds will be processed within 14 business days of the cancellation announcement
- Black Maple Athletics is not responsible for any travel, accommodation, or other expenses incurred
Refund Requests
For any refund requests or payment concerns, please email info@blackmapleathletics.ca. Please include your team name, confirmation code, and reason for the request. All requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Assumption of Risk & Liability Waiver
Inherent Risks
By participating in Black Maple Athletics events, you acknowledge and accept that athletic activities including but not limited to hockey, baseball, and golf carry inherent risks of injury. These risks include but are not limited to:
- Sprains, strains, fractures, and other musculoskeletal injuries
- Concussions and other head injuries
- Injuries from contact with other participants, equipment, or playing surfaces
- Weather-related hazards including heat exhaustion, hypothermia, or lightning
- Injuries resulting from the condition of facilities or equipment
- Heart attack, stroke, or other cardiovascular events
Waiver and Release
By registering for and participating in any Black Maple Athletics event, you (on behalf of yourself and all team members, including minors for whom you have legal responsibility):
- Voluntarily assume all risks of injury, illness, or death arising from participation
- Waive and release Black Maple Athletics, its officers, directors, employees, volunteers, sponsors, and venue operators from any and all claims, liabilities, or damages
- Agree not to sue Black Maple Athletics or any released parties for injuries, damages, or losses
- Agree to indemnify and hold harmless Black Maple Athletics from any claims brought by third parties
- Confirm that all participants are medically fit to participate and have appropriate medical insurance
THIS WAIVER AND RELEASE IS INTENDED TO BE AS BROAD AND INCLUSIVE AS PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW. IF ANY PORTION IS HELD INVALID, THE REMAINDER SHALL CONTINUE IN FULL LEGAL FORCE AND EFFECT.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Black Maple Athletics shall not be liable for:
- Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
- Loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses
- Personal injury or property damage arising from your participation in events
- Any errors or omissions in event scheduling, venue arrangements, or communications
- Theft, loss, or damage to personal property at event venues
- Actions or omissions of other participants, spectators, or third parties
- Technical failures, service interruptions, or website unavailability
In no event shall our total liability exceed the amount you paid for registration fees.
Code of Conduct
All participants, coaches, and spectators must adhere to our code of conduct:
- Treat all participants, officials, staff, and spectators with respect and sportsmanship
- Refrain from abusive language, harassment, discrimination, or violent behavior
- Comply with all rules, regulations, and instructions from event officials
- Refrain from alcohol consumption during active competition (golf tournament social events excepted)
- Not use performance-enhancing drugs or substances prohibited by applicable sports governing bodies
- Respect venue property and facilities
Violation of the code of conduct may result in immediate ejection from the event without refund and potential ban from future events.
Media Release
By registering for a Black Maple Athletics event, you grant us permission to:
- Photograph and video record participants during the event
- Use images and recordings for promotional, marketing, and social media purposes
- Feature team names and results in promotional materials and press releases
If you do not wish to be photographed, please notify us in writing at info@blackmapleathletics.ca prior to the event.
Force Majeure
Black Maple Athletics shall not be liable for any failure to perform obligations under these Terms due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to: natural disasters, severe weather, pandemic or epidemic, government actions or restrictions, war or terrorism, labor disputes, power failures, or venue unavailability. In such cases, we may postpone, reschedule, or cancel events without liability beyond refunding registration fees at our discretion.
Dispute Resolution
Any disputes arising from these Terms or your participation in Black Maple Athletics events shall be:
- First attempted to be resolved through good-faith negotiation by contacting info@blackmapleathletics.ca
- Governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada
- Subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ontario, Canada
Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.

Acknowledgment
BY REGISTERING FOR A BLACK MAPLE ATHLETICS EVENT OR USING OUR SERVICES, YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU HAVE READ, UNDERSTOOD, AND AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS, INCLUDING THE ASSUMPTION OF RISK AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY PROVISIONS.
